The New York Geographic Alliance is happy to help sponsor an exciting event this spring called the Great Lakes Student Summit. It will be a gathering of teachers, along with their students, who are interested in learning more about watersheds.
It will take place in Buffalo, NY on Thursday, May 15th. The morning will be devoted to a variety of student-centered workshops. The rest of the agenda is still being organized, but we hope to include some hands-on aspects to enrich the students’ experience at the Summit. The venue will be the Buffalo Science Museum, and teachers and students in grades 4–8 may attend.
We will be asking each student to pay a $10.00 registration fee. However, if you are interested in bringing students to the Summit, and money is an obstacle, please let us know, as there may be some funding available for those students unable to pay. In addition, the New York Geographic Alliance is able to help with transportation costs to and from the museum, as long as you have completed one of their watershed workshops. If you would like to know more about this event contact Gail Hall: firstname.lastname@example.org or call 716-649-2877.
If you would like to bring your students to the Great Lakes Summit, but you need assistance in paying for transportation (i.e. buses), contact Tim McDonnell at the New York Geographic Alliance office. He will send you the paperwork that must be completed by the teacher and school transportation officer.
