New York State Geographic Bee

Location: 222 Madison Avenue Albany NY 12230

The New York State Geographic Bee will be held at the New York State Museum in Albany on Friday April 5, 2013. Only students who participate in the Geographic Bee at their own schools, and who pass a written exam qualify for this competition. If you want your school to participate in the Bee, you need to be registered this fall. Visit the link below to find out the procedure and fees.

The Bee, at all levels is conducted by the National Geographic Society. For more information, visit the official Geography Bee website (see below). While you're there, watch the video made by New York's 2011 Winner, Matthew Wigler.

The general public is invited to the final round of the competition, but not the preliminary rounds. Gale Sookdeo of NYGA is the coordinator of the Bee, working with National Geographic, and Tim McDonnell will MC the finals. Carol Gersmehl will also be a moderator and a judge.

Deadline for registration ($90): October 15, 2012

Late registration ends ($110): December 9, 2012

School Bees: November 14, 2011-January 13, 2013

Qualifying Test received by: January 31, 2013

State Bees: April 5, 2013

National Bee: May 22-24, 2013
