Social Studies Education Specialists Needed

October 11, 2012

We received this notification from the New York State Education Department a couple days ago. This is an opportunity for NYGA members to influence policy on a statewide basis:

"The State Education Department is looking for New York State Social Studies teachers to serve as Education Specialists. The number of these part-time positions for the State Education Department is limited. The position may entail working in groups with other New York State teachers on the development of standardized tests and other social studies program activities. The work will take place during the school year and during the summer. Meetings and training sessions are usually held in Albany."

Information can be found online at http://www.p12.nysed.gov/assessment/teacher/home.html#ss611.

An application can be found online at: http://www.p12.nysed.gov/assessment/teacher/socialstudies-app.pdf.

We need teachers that will advocate for geography and social studies during this critical time. Please consider serving on this educational team.  If you decide to apply for this position, please let us know.
