Time to Register for the Geography Bee!

October 16, 2009
National Geographic

Schools across the state and the country are encouraged to register now for the Geography Bee. The deadline for registration has been extended to December 11, 2009. The fee now is $90 for a school. Principals must register their schools. Then the schools will receive the materials they need to hold their own local bee.

The National Geographic Bee is a school competition for students in any grades between fourth to eighth. This is a great to excite your students about the world around them, by encouraging them to compete in the Bee. Students who win their school competition then take a written exam. If they qualify, they move on to the state competition held at the New York State Museum in Albany in early-April. Many NYGA members are involved in the state competition, including Tim McDonnell, who is the moderator for the finals.

To get the forms you need to register your school, go to the NGS Website. You then need to mail in the registration letter and the $90 fee to National Geographic Bee, National Geographic Society, 1145 17th Street, NW, Washington, DC 20036-4688.
